Formulation

Formulation is a very useful aspect of psychotherapy. It involves working through with clients their complete histories, in order to map out factors that might contribute to their presenting issue.

The “biopsychosocial model” enables us to look at these factors across a range of influences - it acknowledges that there may be biological factors, as well as psychological factors, as well as social factors, that exacerbate or ameliorate someone’s struggles.

Please find here a copy of the resource I have created on formulation.

I use this resource with clients with the examples at first to give them a sense of what might be included in each section, and then we move to personalising it with their own examples from their histories.
